Worried about making a pie crust?
Don’t worry. You can use a premade pie crust! Either a frozen pie crust OR a refrigerator pie crust will work well for this recipe. Or use my easy pie crust recipe. If you have a food processor making a flaky pie crust is easy!
If you buy a single frozen pie shell from the freezer section and it’s broken, use a tiny bit of water on your finger and gently press the damp edges back together. You can do the same with a refrigerator crust if it tears. And you can do it with a homemade pie crust as well. Water acts as glue for a pie crust.

- unbaked 9-inch pie shell, a single pie crust from the refrigerator section or a single crust from a homemade recipe
- softened butter at room temperature
- brown sugar
- granulated sugar
- large eggs
- vanilla extract
- all-purpose flour
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- chopped walnuts or pecans
- pie plate
- large mixing bowl
- medium bowl
- wire rack
- mixer, either a hand mixer or stand mixer with a paddle attachment

How to store this pie
Store this pie at room temperature for up to 2 days. Then move it to the fridge for longer storage. Be sure to cover the pie with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Or put pieces in airtight containers for storage in the fridge. No need to reheat this pie when serving leftovers. It’s perfect, just as it is!
Chocolate Chip Pie
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust 9-inch, unbaked
- ¾ cup butter softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325º
- dust the pie pan with a little flour and gently ease your pie crust into it
- trim off any excess crust
- crimp around the edges and set aside
- Beat butter and both sugars together with a mixer until light and fluffy
- Beat in eggs and vanilla
- mix the flour and salt together
- Stir in the dry ingredients until fully combined
- Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts
- scrape into prepared pie shell
- bake in the center of the oven for 45-50 minutes until the filling is just set in the center and the top is lightly golden brown
- Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before serving
- slice and serve with ice cream, dessert sauces, or whipped cream on top of the pie or next to it
