What Is Compound Butter?

Compound butter is simply butter mixed with extra ingredients—like herbs, spices, or in this case, fresh fruit and sugar. It adds extra flavor and richness, making it perfect for both sweet and savory dishes.

We make and love Everything Butter because it carries the flavors into plain toast or bagels. It’s also great on roasted corn!

Ingredients laid out on a countertop: a plate of strawberry butter, a jar of confectioners sugar with a scoop, a bowl of strawberries, and a container of salt.

Ingredients For Strawberry Butter

This easy little recipe only calls for 4 ingredients, and 3 of them you probably already have on hand. You do need fresh strawberries for this recipe, so be sure to get the best you can find.

How to Change It Up

Want it sweeter? Add an extra tablespoon of confectioner sugar or a drizzle of honey. For a more subtle sweetness, reduce the sugar slightly or swap in mashed raspberries for a tart twist.

You can also mix in a little vanilla extract or vanilla paste to amp up the flavor. Lemon and strawberry are always a hit together so you could add zest if you like.

How to Use It

This butter makes everything better! Spread it on:

  • Muffins
  • Pancakes
  • Scones
  • French toast
  • Toast
  • Waffles
  • Biscuits
  • Bagels

How to Store It

Store strawberry butter in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze it in small portions and thaw as needed. It’s best enjoyed soft, so let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before using.

This makes an amazing gift to give to anyone hosting a brunch or breakfast party. Or make it and give it to friends and family.
