Why Make Candy in the Slow Cooker?

Wondering WHY in the world you would want to make candy in a slow cooker?

Here’s a couple of reasons:

  • One of the key reasons to make crock pot candy is its simplicity. Even if you’re not an experienced baker or candy maker, you can easily whip up a batch of this delightful treat
  • It requires nothing special; you can find all the necessary ingredients at your local grocery store, right in the baking aisle
  • The recipe requires minimal hands-on time, so you can focus on other holiday tasks while your candy cooks
  • it makes a BIG batch, about 3 pounds or 30 pieces, depending on how big or little you make your peanut cluster
Various ingredients in separate bowls on a surface for crock pot candy: semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white almond bark, peanut butter, and Spanish peanuts, each labeled.

What you need to make crock pot candy

All these ingredients are found in the baking or cereal aisle of your local grocery store.

  • white almond bark
  • Spanish peanuts
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • butterscotch chips
  • peanut butter
  • crock pot/slow cooker
  • silicone spatula or wooden spoon
  • baking sheets

You can swap out the butterscotch chips for more chocolate chips. And if you like dark chocolate or milk chocolate, swap out the semi-sweet for those instead.

Make this with Kids!

This is a fun and easy recipe for kids because they can add all the ingredients and take turns stirring every 10-15 minutes or so. The big plus is that it won’t be too hot for kids. So it’s safer in a way for kids to help.

To store these Nut Clusters

Nut clusters can be stored in airtight containers in your pantry. If you store them in the fridge they’re liable to build up condensation on the inside of the package, and then it can make your chocolate spotty and gross. Cool and dark is good.

Once ready to serve them, just put them out on platters at room temperature. And then can go back in their airtight containers when you’re ready to store them again. That is, if they’re not all eaten immediately!
