A delectable spoonful of Thanksgiving dressing in a white dish.

This recipe starts with a box of cornbread stuffing mix. This means you don’t have to buy bread or make bread and then cut it up or crumble it and dry it. It’s so easy when you start with a box.

But first, which is which?

The age-old question about this bread dish we make at Thanksgiving is whether it’s stuffing or dressing.

The answer is whether it’s stuffed in the bird, which is stuffing. OR whether it’s baked in a separate pan, which is dressing.

But colloquially, dressing and stuffing are used for both versions, and no one blinks an eye. So bake a dish of stuffing and add some dressing to your turkey, we all know exactly what you mean.

Can I use this Cornbread recipe to stuff a turkey?

This recipe can definitely be stuffed in a turkey! It’s generally the same mixture, whether it goes in a bird or it goes in a casserole.

To put it in a turkey, simply make the dressing as directed. When you’re ready to cook the bird, stuff the dressing in the bird and bake as directed for a stuffed bird.

Got Leftovers?

If you have leftover dressing OR stuffing, you can store it in airtight containers in the fridge. We use and love these Pyrex dishes, they’re glass with plastic lids, so handy for most if not all, leftovers.

And be sure to use the leftovers to make these dressing or stuffing waffles! So delicious when dipped in leftover gravy!
