Special Tips to Make Them

A stand mixer makes the process of making the rolls a bit easier. If you’re kneading the dough by hand, know that it will take longer. You want it to be soft but not sticky.

Make sure to oil your hands before shaping the dough into a ball to rise. Not only does this keep excess dough off your hands but the oil actually helps the dough from drying out as it sits. Once you cut the rectangles out, the dough will rise again on the baking sheet. Let it rise until they are “puffy”.

Make sure to portion and cut the rolls roughly the same size so that they cook evenly. Double-check that your yeast hasn’t expired. Expired yeast won’t work properly. Likewise, the best place for dough to rise is in a warm room. If it’s cold in the house it will take longer.

Easy Variation

The copycat roadhouse rolls are brushed with melted butter immediately out of the oven to give them a glossy look and delicious flavor.

Know that you can also drizzle or smear them with a cinnamon honey butter too. This gives the rolls a sweeter flavor which makes them delicious to serve with a Aidell’s Sausage or delicious New York Steak.

How To Store The Roadhouse Rolls

Cooked rolls can be stored on the counter for 4-5 days. Simply wrap them in plastic wrap or place them into an airtight container. They taste best ever so slightly warmed up in the oven before you serve them.
The rolls can also be frozen for later use. Place the rolls on a baking sheet for 90 minutes until they’re frozen through. Then, remove them from the sheet and store them in an airtight bag or container for 4 months. Make sure you store them where other items won’t fall or compress the rolls.
When you need them, let them thaw overnight in the fridge before warming them up lightly to serve.
