Warm Winter Mulling Spices

This lovely easy to make spice mix makes mulled winter drinks so easy to achieve! This makes a big batch, perfect for swapping or sharing with friends, for my swap I made double this amount. Scale it down right on the recipe card if you only need enough for personal use.

Ingredients

  • 8 whole nutmeg
  • 12 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 ounces allspice berries
  • 1 1/2 ounces whole cloves
  • 1 ounce green cardamom pods
  • 1 ounce Star Anise
  • 1/4 cup dried orange peel can use some dried lemon peel

Instructions

  • add all spices to a thick ziploc bag, except dried citrus peel
  • lay bag on a towel, cover with another towel
  • give it several whacks with a rolling pin or wooden mallet
  • check progress occasionally to see if spices are crushed enough, you want chunks but not too chunky
  • mix in dried peel
  • place in a mason jar, cap tightly
  • to use: place 1-2 TBSP of Warm Winter Mulling Spices in a reusable tea bag or even a tea ball
  • warm a quart of wine or cider or even herbal tea, then add mulling spices and reduce heat and let it soak
  • you may want to experiment with different base drinks and varying amounts of Warm Winter Mulling Spices to find a blend you love

To make Warm Winter Mulling Spices you will need:
  • a heavy ziploc bag
  • a rolling pin or wooden mallet
  • towel to cushion the bag
