Apple Spice Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups apples peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 cup caramel syrup for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and creamy

  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla

  • Mix in the sour cream until smooth

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined

  • Fold in the diced apples evenly

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly
