Ingredients

  • 3-4 Granny Smith apples
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsps ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
  • 4 oz Cool Whip
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Peel and dice the apples into small, even pieces

  • Toss apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl

  • Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add the apple mixture and water

  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes until apples are tender
  • Remove a few tablespoons of liquid from the pan, mix with cornstarch until smooth, and stir back into the pan

  • Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
  • Remove from heat and let the apple mixture cool completely

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth

Notes

For a sweeter flavor, use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples instead of Granny Smith.
