Ingredients

  • one dozen pre-made plain cake donuts unglazed
  • 1 can 16 ounce can of frosting I used Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate
  • one cup powdered sugar OR a tube of store-bought white frosting
  • 1 Tablespoon milk you don't need this if you're a tube of frosting
  • toothpicks
  • 12 spider rings washed and dried

Instructions

  • scoop 1/4 of the tub of frosting into a small pan
  • heat slowly over low heat until it's melted
  • set out a large baking sheet to hold the finished donuts while the frosting hardens up
  • while the frosting heating up sift the powdered sugar if you plan to use it, you can use store-bought frosting instead
  • then slowly add the milk in small amounts to the sugar, stirring after each addition, until its an icing consistency put it in a heavy-duty ziploc and clip the corner off for a tip OR load it in a reuseable icing bag
  • once the frosting has melted remove it from the heat
  • take one plain donut and dip it in the frosting, lift it up, allow it to drip a bit then dip it in a second time, this method gives you complete thick coverage
  • lay it on the prepared baking sheet
  • dip two more the same way
  • add more frosting to the pan and let it melt while putting the webs on the donuts
  • on the first donut you dipped make 3 concentric "imperfect circles" around the top of the donut with the icing you made OR the store-bought frosting

  • feather it out using a toothpick to make a web

  • add a spider ring

  • repeat with the other two donuts
  • then repeat with the rest of the donuts, working in batches of three
  • let them sit for a while to firm up and they're party ready!

Notes

  • working in batches of three gives the first donut time to set up just enough so the white icing doesn't just ooze away
