preheat the stove top popper over medium heat
when hot add the oil and the nuts
stir to combine and let rest
stir every 30 seconds or so
meanwhile grind the smoked salt with a mortar and pestle or between two spoons
when the almonds are good and toasty about 3-5 minutes
remove from the heat and place in paper bag
sprinkle the smoked salt on the nuts and add the drop of smoke flavor if using
close the bag and shake to coat the nuts
pour on a plate to cool
