What Exactly IS Fig Crostini?

Sweet figs, tangy goat cheese, chopped pecans, and a drizzle of honey make these fig crostini appetizers the perfect two-bite treat to serve before dinner.

Fig, Goat Cheese, and Honey Crostini Appetizer Pairs Well With…

A nice crisp IPA is one of our favorites to enjoy with goat cheese and honey. The figs work nicely with the whole combination.

Reading up around the internet I found several sites recommend a nice merlot to go with goat cheese and honey. Also, mentioned? Champagne.

Need a refreshing non-alcoholic drink idea? Try one of the many variations of flavored sparkling waters available these days. Almost any fruity flavor will taste great with these.

Or Make Them For a Light Dessert

You can make these fig crostini for a light dessert too. Two or three on a plate are the perfect light dessert. Not too sweet, lightly savory, and served with after dinner coffee, make these a tasty little dessert.

What Else Works Well With Figs and Goat Cheese?

I think there are quite a few things you could sprinkle on top of the warm honey. Things like:

  • chopped pistachio
  • chopped black walnuts
  • fresh arugula
  • dark chocolate shavings
  • cacao nibs
  • freeze-dried fruit powders

Any number of little bits can be sprinkled on to subtlely change the flavors. Try a few different flavors to see which ones you like best!

We don’t get them often! So when I see them or order them from our foodclub you can bet they are a treat for us. This little fig appetizer dish was our favorite way to enjoy that rare treat of fresh figs.

About That Cast Iron

This uses a 10 inch cast iron skillet. If you don’t have one try a bigger skillet and make them all at once. OR use a baking sheet, the cast iron makes them look fancy. OR grab a nice cast iron skillet because you’ll use it more than you think you would! I linked up to one in my recipe card if you’re interested.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 baguette
  • 6 ounces fresh goat cheese
  • 4-5 fresh figs
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • preheat the oven to 450˚
  • warm the honey in a small saucepan just until it is soft enough to drizzle
  • slice the baguette into 3/4-1 inch slices
  • place 9 in an 10 inch in cast iron skillet
  • place in the hot oven 3-4 minutes until the bread is just starting to toast
  • meanwhile, slice the figs
  • when the bread is done crumble half the goat cheese on top of the toast
  • place back in the oven to warm just briefly
  • remove and add a slice of fig to each toast
  • sprinkle with chopped pecans
  • drizzle with honey and serve warm
