About Little House Big Alaska

Hi! I’m Laura Sampson, author of Little House Big Alaska. I live in South Central Alaska with my husband, sons, dogs, and chickens. I’m on a mission to teach modern family-oriented home cooks how to make old-fashioned foods new again. Here, I share my passion for home cooking, backyard gardening, and homesteading.

As a wife and mom of 3 boys, I understand the struggles of trying to serve a home-cooked meal each night. I love sharing recipes and cooking hacks for busy home cooks to create dishes they may think take more time or skill than they have to make.

I also contribute to Food Drink Life, writing articles about supporting the cooking, travel, and home and garden categories on the e-zine. I’m also a publisher featured on Punchfork.

I love Great British Baking Show!

If you’ve read many of my posts, you’ve noticed I’m a big fan of the Great British Baking Show. So much so that I started a Facebook group Great British Baking Show Bake-Along where I share my love of the cooking and baking. Each week I (along with over 9800 other fans) watch the show and then take to the kitchen to recreate what we’ve learned. The group was featured in an article on the BBC!

Sharing knowledge is my passion!

My husband and I believe in good old-fashioned living in the last frontier, which is why we run the Palmer Folk School. We teach artisan maker courses in everything from cooking to blacksmithing. We also run other family-owned businesses from our homestead farm.
